AURANGZEB (1707)

AURANGZEB SIEZES CONTROL:

 In 1657 Shah Jehan was getting ill and this created a big
problem in the Mughal Empire. Shah Jehan had four sons,
Dara Shikoh (eldest son), Shah Murad, Shah Shuja, and
Aurangzeb. All four of them were of mature age, all were
governors of important part of the empire and all of
them wanted to become emperors. When the his kids got
the news that his father was dying they all started to
jostle for power. Even though Shah Shuja and Shah
Murad struckted their names on the coins showing
themselves as the new emperor of the Mughal Empire.
But Dara Shikoh was considered to be the new emperor
as he was the oldest but this didn't happen, Aurangzeb
and Shah Murad combined their forces and defeated the
army of Dara Shikoh. Later Shah Jehan recovered and
ordered his sons not to march on Agra but Aurangzeb
thought that his father had lost the control and it was
necessary that Agra was captured so to re-establish the
empire. Aurangzeb defeated the imperial army led by
Dara Shikoh and imprisoned his father and told his father
to remain in Agra but Shah Jehan died in 1666 and was
buried in Taj Mahal.
