Thank You All:

First, I want to thank all of you for sharing information and helping each those in need. Now I feel that I
have to return the favor and contribute.

Little History:
I read almost everything here on how to upgrade the Map on 430N RHB from 2014 to City Navigator
North America 2018.20 on this forum. I upgraded, down graded firmware versions of the unit and tried
loading the map upgrade (GMAPPROM.IMG with the JCV folder and tried loading GMAPSUPP.IMG and
JVC folder via DVD and various USBs, you name it and I did it with no success. Obviously, what I was
doing was doing wrong combination or missing something important. After trying and trying your
suggestion, I was successful at the end.

SUCCESS!!!
Here is what I did to make this work.

1) VERY IMPORTANT STEP ‐ I used a Kingston USB stick and format it to FAT32. Don't buy the new ones
that has Blue color connector, they are USB version 3. Mine was a 16Gig (usb version: 3 and backward
compatible to 2.)
2) Only GMAPSUPP.IMG worked for me. I follow this file structure in my Kingston USB stick:

3) Upgrade your 430N unit firmware to latest (50.01.01):

Old firmware?
Firmware upgraded to 50.01.01

Notice the model went from RHB13 to RHB15. Only downside during these firmware down/upgrades
for me was losing the logos of the Satellite channels. Not a big deal, it should be an easy fix.

4) I turn on the ignition and run the engine. Since I was going for a drive so I took the opportunity and
inserted the Kingston USB stick (that had files mentioned above in Step 2) into the USB port of the unit.
5) The screen showed this message after about 1.5 minutes:

"Please wait....
Reading Files..."

6) Then I think a message came on the screen that was saying something like

New map 2018.20 was detected ????? do you want to upgrade and it takes about 2 Hours or something
like that? Do you want to upgrade?.....

I chose Yes option. The screen went back to Navigation screen and I waited and waited (Recommend
waiting here) and then I got this NAV Update Progress message on the screen while I was driving the

Jeep: I got that far, wow that was an accomplishment. I was thinking how I was so
many times close to giving up. I was happy that I didn't give up. 😊😊
I kept the Jeep running for the who duration of the map upgrade for about 45‐50 Minutes (see the
proper time on the bottom left corner of the above and below picture). I decided to snap the below
picture and document it for you guys here to give you an idea of how long upgrading process of map
actually takes.

7) After the 100% completion, I can't remember whether the unit rebooted then I got this next PND
Update Completed message or it came after the system reboot? Anyway, you should see this PND
Update Completed message at the end:
8) This last image shows the version of Map installed after the update. You can get to this screen from your
Nagivation settings and information.

I hope this helps someone out there. Don't give up. I think the main things that I did different from my
previous numerous failed attempts were these key steps:
1) used Kingston USB Fat32
2) Used GMAPSUPP.IMG or renamed the GMAPPROM.IMG to GMAPSUPP.IMG.
3) Jeep engine was running during the update.
