Education is the only medium which paves the way for success in one’s life. Education
plays a very essential role in transforming the way society functions. Education facilitates in
changing the manner in which individual thinks and behaves in the society. Education plays a
major role in influencing the manner an individual think and act. Today in this era where the
acceptance of society, as well as community, is very essential for an individual it can become
easier if the person is well educated. Education enables and gives the person a capability to
reason and think logically. The things like group think and superstitious beliefs can be removed
from the society by providing the maximum number of individuals with the education they need.
A well educated person has the capability to have a say and use an opinionated approach while
dealing with different matters of society. This essay assists in delivering an in depth insight into
the contribution of education in shaping a person who is accepted as normal being by Society.

Public education plays the role of catalyst in bringing the prosperity and shaping the
individuals in society into innovative and creative thinkers. The public education has got
different meanings for different individuals. Few people emphasise on the responsibility of
schools to help in providing the students with the knowledge and skills that enable them in
becoming successful in a continuously changing the environment. On the contrary, there are few
scholars that have totally different views for public education. Public education is about
educating the children who come from different sections and corners of society (Yu, et. al.,
2017). This will inculcate the feeling of unity in diversity among the students right from the very
initial stage. With this, it can become a part of their upbringing and influence their thinking. This
concept is rising as this will provide the students with potentialities to develop critical thinking
and present their opinion in a very dignified manner.

Nowadays Education and Social Mobility go hand in hand. It is very important to

understand the term Social Mobility. Social Mobility can be defined as the manner in which
individuals move among the various social positions. It is defined as the manner in which
individual move between different social classes in society. It comprises of different classes as
well as ethnic groups and thereby evaluates the health status, literacy, and education level in the
society. Social mobility is of two types of horizontal and vertical mobility. It also comprises any
kind of status change between the individuals and their parents. The education cannot be

regarded as the only aspect responsible for social mobility. It is one of the major components
contributing towards the social mobility. If an individual refuses to take education it will become
slightly difficult for the individual to move among different social strata’s in the society. The
individual will lose the ability to present his views and opinions on a certain topic. As there are
many factors that affect the social mobility which is structuring of the society in open as well as
closed societies and urges and desire in different individuals. Ultimately it can be understood that
education is just one of the majorly contributing factor in the social mobility as the individual
getting higher education is more likely to jump the social status ladder at a very fast pace.

Inequality in education levels can create problems for some sections of society. There are
several factors that are responsible for creating inequality in providing education to different
social classes. The first and foremost factor that is responsible for creating inequality is teacher
expectations. This highly stress upon that the teachers have certain expectations for the
educational qualifications of their students. The teachers are not having high expectations in
education for the students of the low income families. They tend to hold high educational
aspirations for the students of high income earning families (Yuping, 2014). These differences in
teacher’s expectations end up in higher drop outs at early school age and thereby tend to lower
the self-esteem of students. The other factor that endorses inequality is the digital divide and
information technology. The accessibility to the information technology and digital peripherals is
not equal among all the different sections of the society. There are few sections of the society
that has not proper access to information technology and thereby creating inequality among
different social strata. The school funding and facilities given to different children is different.
The schools that are charging high fees from the students tend to provide lots of benefits to their
students in comparison to the schools that are not charging much from the students. Tracking is
also one of the factors that are endorsing inequality in the education as it is defined as the
categorisation of students into different groups on the basis of their academic ability (Azzolini &
Vergolini, 2014). As the academic ability is not the right parameter to segregate the students.

Education and social reform policy assists in governing the manner in which education is
taking place in all the educational institutions over the years. It is defined as the policies and
reforms taken by the government in order to change the manner education is taking place in the
schools, colleges, and universities. Some of the schools are adopting a very liberal policy in

which it is emphasised that the individuals are developing as per the intellectual ability and
thereby enables them in achieving the maximum potential. The social reforms are taking place in
terms of social changes taking place in all the educational institutions.

While summing up it can be indicated that education up to a large extent plays the
catalytic role in shaping the person into the socially acceptable individual. This changes the
manner in which the individuals can become opinionated and can become capable enough to
have a voice over different matters. Education enables the individual in imbibing critical thinking
and respect others opinions as well.
