Parking

Potential Questions to Ask:


● How many parking spots are available on campus? How many students attend our
school?
○ Far more spots than parking permits issued
○ Can have permits for up to four vehicles
○ Supposed to have a different permit for different cars
○ LECOM students parking is not tracked
○ D lot should be open fall of 2019
○ Never park in handicap, blocking in driveways, reserved spots
○ Campus police will ride you to your car
● How often are students receiving parking violations?
● Is there any way we could have a parking garage on campus one day?
○ Cost to build a parking spot is expensive; parking deck would double tuition
● What reasons are legitimate reasons for a parking violation appeal to be approved?
○ If you have a reasonable explanation for why you did what you did
○ The police department does not determine if appeals are approved; three
anonymous people are on that board
○ People not understanding new parking rules at start of semester
○ Mix ups between campus police officers
○ Never handicap stops or strip down to Boyle lot, parking on the grass
○ Not appealed if you leave car for too long in a commuter lot
○ Maintenance can charge you for damaging grass
● Is there any way to get an Emergency Call Station in the temporary lot?
○ One at the end of Dechantal driveway
○ Too much cabling to put one in temporary lot
● Are residents allowed to park in Lot B? Where can commuters park and where can
residents park?
○ Most B and C lot spots are taken by residents
○ Temporary situation for D lot
○ Not allowed to park in Boyle lot
○ A lot, Boyle lot, grotto for commuters
○ Anyone can park in E lot
○ Parallel parking in B lot is a fire hazard
○ Faculty members have been removed from Boyle lot
● Where are the overnight parking locations? Can residents park overnight in Caritas
Christi?
○ Residents cannot park at Caritas because it’s not lighted and the sisters don’t want
overnight parking since it is not the university’s lot
○ Caritas lot should be for faculty and commuter overflow
○ Parking fairy at Caritas - gift cards or VP spots
● How early should a student drive to campus in order to look for a parking spot?
○ Commuters should check E lot first
● How can we work together as students and staff members to educate and improve the
situation?
● Can we make the Temporary Lot, permanent and/or expand it?
○ Will have an excess of parking on campus once D lot reopens
○ Would cost fifty grand to gravel temporary lot and more to pave it
● Can we had stones or gravel to the pathway where the mud is?
● Is there a way to designate certain spots in Boyle/B/C lot for commuters, residents, staff,
or employees?
● Is there a way to put more lights up in the Temporary lot for at night time?
○ Complaints from residents when lights were put in temp lot
○ Will ask about putting lights on the road
○ Increasing camera coverage there and E lot
● Communicate to classes: Commuters should encourage residents not to park in B and C;
residents can park at the far end of E lot
● Can’t change parking on an academic year basis because of recruitment

● On the topic of freshman/a specific year not having a car; can there be a specific lot
dedicated to freshman only?
● Could we take back spots in D lot?
○ Using road behind Brownlee for construction vehicles but come in through D lot
as well
○ Will not be able to access back end once the structure is higher
○ Will not lose spots with new dorm
○ No new parking lot for new dorm - D lot will be the same size
○ New dorm should take students out of the Y and the apartments
○ More students will just be living on campus instead of commuting but there will
not be an increase of parking permits
