Endemic Animal From North Sulawesi

Talaud bear cuscus (Ailurops melanotis) is an endemic animals that only live in Salibabu
Island, Talaud Regency, North Sulawesi. Talaud bear cuscus is one of the marsupials that exist in
Indonesia, except kangaroo. Like kangaroo, after giving birth to her child, Talaud bear cuscus
will be care for and bring her child in the pocket that exist in her stomach.

Like other cuscus, Talaud bear cuscus is a quiet and diffident animals. These animals
have a very little voice. The body weight of adult Talaud bear cuscus can up to 8kilogram with
black, brown, and gray fur colours.

Unfortunately, the population of these Talaud bear cuscus believed to be extinct. Talaud
bear cuscus declined is caused by deforestation due to land clearing for forest conversion and
illegal logging. It is also caused by the actions of illegal hunting both for take the meat as a
foodstuff and traded as pets.

It is a shame to see that in fact these Talaud bear cuscus has a shy nature that become a
prey animals that are endangered, while the hunters have no shame for have been hunting rare
animals.
