Objectives of the course

(1) To understand the fundamentals of remote


sensing and GIS

(2) To utilize and analyze satellite images / GIS


datasets by open source software “QGIS”

(3) To understand how to collect field data by


cellphone applications and to integrate
geospatial dataset on QGIS for the studies of
geology, environment, water resource and
climate change

Schedule of the course
1) Fundamentals of remote sensing/ GIS
1)-1. To understand the fundamentals of remote sensing/ GIS
and to learn examples of utilization of RS/GIS on mineral
and oil gas resources, forestry, agriculture, climate
changes and natural disasters
2) Downloading free satellite images and GIS data from website
2)-1. To learn how to download various satelliteimages / GIS
data from website.
3) Basic manipulation of QGIS
3)-1. To import and analyze satellite data such as Landsat,
ASTER, Sentinel-2 and SRTM/DEM
3)-2. To make and edit vector data (Point, Line and Polygon)
3)-3. To make maps of slope, aspect, hill-shade, relief and etc.
3)-4. To import scanned images to QGIS using geo-reference
points.

Schedule of the course

4) Field survey technique


4)-1. To prepare the field survey map which is composed of
satellite image with grids, vector layers, legend, scale
and etc.
4)-2. To record field data such as coordinates/ field
conditions by cellphone applications in order to
compare satellite images.

5) Integration of field data with various geospatial data


5)-1. To import tracking data, GPS data, and make excel
spread sheets to summarize field survey data.
