DIALOGUE WEEK 5

Christianity is a religion based on salvation. All Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the

Saviour of the world, although there exist various versions of how Jesus Christ saves human

beings. Salvation is the belief in Jesus Christ, which is a clear revelation of God's work in one's

heart and a strong foundation of their spiritual encounter with God ( Olson, 2016). A day to the

crucifixion of Jesus, He spoke to His disciples in the upper room and promised them a

'comforter' who was the Holy Spirit. The book of John stipulates the role of the Holy Spirit as

that one that will convict the world of its sins. It is stated that the Holy Spirit will convince the

world of its sins, a role that surpasses any human ability. It raises an individual’s consciousness

to sin and causes an awakening of the heart to perceive the truth in a new way.

The Holy Spirit integrates a Christian’s life into the spiritual family of God (McGrath,

2018). Besides, it builds up an undeserved intimacy with God. Apostle Paul introduces the

adoptive role of the Holy Spirit in salvation, where those who did not have a father can

confidently claim of having an Abba Father who is the King of all ages. The adoptive role instills

praise and thanksgiving in the hearts of believers. Also, the Holy Spirit acts as a seal and

guarantor that whatever work that Christ began in our hearts shall surely come to completion.

Through the spirit, we are assured of an eternal destiny, which is eternal life. There exists a

guarantee that a believer’s relationship with God is permanent and continues to exist even after

death.

One of the significant roles of the Holy Spirit is to lead us in truth. By truth, Christians

can make rightful choices despite how hard it may seem. Although the Bible does not directly

provide the remedy for every difficulty, there exist principles for every problem ( Heisler, 2018).

Through this, an individual can live ethically. Often, the desires of the flesh conflict with

spiritual reality. Therefore, there requires the filling of the Holy Spirit to do what is right which

is in accordance with the will of God.
