CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET

6-2 Your Network List

Complete items 1 to 3 now and do item 4 in a few weeks.

1. List the people who are in your network today. Use the method you chose in
Career Action Worksheet 6-1. How many people are on your list today?
My mother: 6

2. Evaluate the quality of your network. Rate how likely each person is to be able
to help you in your job search. Add 1 point for each item; each person will have
from 1 to 8 points.
☐ This person is on my list today
☐ We have met in person
☐ We are connected on social media (LinkedIn®, Facebook, etc.)
☐ We have known each other for at least two years
☐ We stay in touch during the year (via phone, email, social media, in person,
etc.)
☐ We work in the same career field
☐ He/she works at a company I am interested in
☐ He/she has a high-level position in the company

3. Grow your network. Reach out to at least five of your highest rated network
connections and ask them for the names of two people they know who might be
able to talk with you. Try to add at least two names for each person you contact.
Important: You are not asking for the names of people who will give you a job.
You are seeking career information and additional contacts.
4. How many people are in your network now?
Keep repeating Step 3. Continue to grow your network throughout your Job Search
Journey. Grow both the number of people and the quality of your contacts.

Add your completed work to the “About Jobs” section of your Career Builder Files.
