For this discussion I selected a job posting for a Corporate Security Officer with DICK’s

Sporting Goods in Pennsylvania. The personal requirements for this job include
proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, burglar alarm panels, closed circuit television
and fire alarm panels. Additional skills include being capable of managing multiple
tasks, verbal and written communication skills and decision making. These
requirements show that the company is looking for an individual with a strong
technological and interpersonal set of skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is a basic requirement today when working with
computers. This allows the security officer to type up reports, answer emails and
perform basic research when needed. Proficiency with burglar alarm panels, fire alarm
panels and closed circuit television shows that the position calls for someone who is
capable of mitigating the loss of and damage to property at the site. This is important for
a corporate entity as revenue is a priority in order for the company to thrive.

Having strong verbal and written communication skills is all but a must for a majority of
jobs today. These allow the officer to engage with guests and the client in a professional
manner. Engaging guests in this manner helps cultivate a loyal customer base, which
increases revenue. Multi tasking is not often seen as a requirement, but for this position,
it shows that the work environment can be hectic. Being able to compartmentalize
different aspects of the position will be useful for this job
