Wizards of the Coast is a game publisher that is headquartered in Renton, Washington.

Founded in 1990, it has been a growing force in the game market for many years, having gone

from ninety (90) employees over the years to over one thousand (1000) employees. The

company produces many games, the most popular of which include: Dungeons & Dragons and

Magic: The Gathering. These games have stood the test of time, gaining a player base in the tens

of millions around the world.

There are numerous companies that compete with Wizards of the Coast, several of which

are worth much more than the company itself. The toy company Mattel, worth many times more

than Wizards, is considered one of the company's top competitors according to [insert citation].

Nintendo of America, a behemoth of a gaming company, is also counted among Wizards’ top

competitors. Konami, the company that produces the popular trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh!, is

considered a direct competitor to Wizards of the Coast as well.

As a game publisher, Wizards of the Coast has many titles within their portfolio. These

cover a variety of different types and genres. One of the biggest intellectual properties for the

company is the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. This game has maintained relevance

for over 20 years now, and it doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of stopping.

Workshop, is a miniatures manufacturer from Nottingham, England. Their market cometes with

Wizards of the Coast in miniatures. Another rival is the Paizo Publishing company.

Having expanded their reach to the software category, Wizards of the Coast has several

growth. Annual sales are estimated to be around $313 million. Magic: The Gathering trading

card game accounts for a significant amount of it’s 9% revenue increase second (2nd) quarter

2019.

Technology plays an important part of any modern company, andWizards of the Coast is

no different. They have expanded their reach into the mobile application market with titles such

as Warriors of Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale. The ever popular MMO (Massive

Multiplayer Online) video game Neverwinter has to date, over 18 million players. These are

massive numbers, and with the accompanying microtransactions, a great source of revenue for

the company.
