Objective:  Students will be able to throw a ball to a partner, using the

correct skills.

Materials and  Tennis balls

Resources:  Cones
 Diagram of group placements

Introductory Activity: 2 minutes
We will tell the students that we are going to begin by warming up our bodies and
doing some stretches. We will ask the students to spread out at least arms distance
from each other. We will lead them in dynamic stretching. These stretches will include
arm circles with palms facing up, wrist stretches, and internal rotation on both sides
for 30 seconds each.

Fitness Development: 3 minutes

We will tell the students that they will be playing “ball toss”. Students will find a partner
and grab one tennis ball. Then they will line up against the wall facing their partner.
Partner A will stay against the wall while Partner B takes a step back after each
successful underhand catch. If they drop the tennis ball Partner B goes back and they
restart.

Lesson Focus: 12 minutes

We will have students pair up and then stand across each other about four feet away.
Then we will introduce the first step of throwing which is side to target. Then they will
practice with their partner throwing face side to side. Then we will ask the students to
take three large steps back. Next I will introduce the next step of throwing which is
arm all the way in an L shape. Then they will practice a few times throwin side to side
and arm all the way back. After that, I will have students take three more steps back
and I will introduce the thirds step which is stepping with their front foot forward. They
wlll then practice throwing with the all three steps. Finally students will take three
more steps back and we will discuss the final step which is following through. Then
they will practice the final step with their partner. At the end I will explain when I say
SAFF. It means stand side to side, arm all the way back, front foot steps forward,
follow through.

Closing Activity: 1 minute

We will use an attention getter. We will ask students to high five their teammates and
give a compliment to them. Then we will ask one person from the group to return the
tennis ball.

Accommodations:
While stretching students can modify based on their physical needs. When stretching
all students can sit. A softer ball or East catch play ball can be substituted for the
tennis ball. Student can have a same side partner to assist with catching, throwing,
and retrieving the ball as needed.
