Answer the following:

1. How are plays different from movies?

- Plays are live shows with actors and actresses acting out a story in front of a live
audience. A movie is a pre-taped showing of actors and actresses acting out a story.
There are benefits and hindrances both to seeing a play and a movie. Making a movie
allows for postproduction to add effects, plays cannot accomplish this because it is a live
production. Watching a movie is very much more entertaining to an audience than any
play that is being shown live.

2. How is reading a play different from watching it?

- Reading a play can help tremendously. Everyone has different perceptions of what they
read and those perceptions affect how they're translated to the stage. Reading the script
can also help us to fully understand the scenario of the play.

3. How do actors communicate meanings in the theatre?

- Communication is vital to a successful theatrical experience. A play is a two way street.

What is sent from the stage gets an immediate response from the audience. There is an
exchange that doesn’t happen in the movie-going experience or the reading experience. It
is an actor’s job to communicate to the audience through their performance.

4. How do technical elements influence the actors, story, and audience?

- Technical elements consist of scenery or setting, costumes, properties, lights, sound,

and makeup. These have a big influence to the actors, story, and audience without these
technical elements, the play, movie, or drama will be lifeless.

5. How can studying theatre and drama benefit our lives?

- It seems obvious to say that studying drama and theater benefits us on a daily basis. It

adds more confidence to the person who’s studying it. It also improves vocal projection,
articulation, tone of speech and expression.
