STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (SOP)

Aerospace Programme (Aerodynamics, CFD)

During B.Tech I have Studied Various Subjects and realised my special interest
in fluid mechanics especially compressible flow. But I believe that my
knowledge of this domain is quite limited. I want to pursue M.tech so that I get
intensive knowledge of this domain. Academic & research environment of IIT
Bombay will offer great opportunity to learn more of this field.

I found boundary layer theory very interesting. Boundary layer formation and
separation both have great effect on efficient flow phenomenon. I want to
study the effect of various flow parameters on formation and separation of
boundary layer during the fluid flow. I want to study the effect of various fluid
properties such as viscosity, density, surface tension and process parameters
such as fluid velocity on the stability of the boundary layer. Surface
characteristics such as roughness values also have impact of stability of
boundary layer and can be investigated. I want to optimise the analysis of
experimental values of CFD.

I have interest in analysis of fluid flow through converging diverging section.

The losses associated with diverging sections, make it imperative for such
section to have reduced gradient and slope. It further increases the length of
such section.

Aerospace programme of IIT Bombay will provide me an opportunity to study

the effects of all these parameters on formation and stability of the boundary
layer. Research in CFD is computationally intensive requiring extensive
computational analytical support. Associate centre for CFD in IIT Bombay is
state of art facility in this direction which has several compute servers and
workstations. It will be a great opportunity for me to join such centre & work in
domain of CFD.
