SY(Electrical) ASSIGNMENT # 3 26-03-2020

Q1. Obtain the state transition table, state transition diagram of the following synchronous
counter for the figure shown in figure below. Sketch the waveform of Q0 and Q1 when
the clock pulses are applied. Assume Q0 = Q1 = 0.

Note: It’s a mod 3 counter (resets after every three pulses).

Q2. Design a mod 6 (divide by 6) synchronous counter using T flip flop.

Once designed draw the state transition diagram considering all the possibilities
combination for 3 bits. See whether unused states are going into lock out. In case of
lock out condition, adjust don’t care conditions to come out of the lock out state.

Note: Lock out is a condition in which if the counter happens to go into the unused state,
it changes in between the unused states only and does not come back to used states.

Q3. Design a BCD synchronous counter using J K flip flop. Reset all unused states

Note: This avoids Lock out. For all unused states next state should be 0000.

Q4. Design a MOD 10 synchronous counter using D flip flop. Draw the state transition
diagram considering all the possibilities combination for 3 bits.
