PROGRAM OF THE
15th SYMPOSIUM ON ENGINEERING GEOLOGY AND GEOTECHNICS
Thursday 22/09/2016
Session chairs:
1200 - 1245 Dr. BOGDAN ORLIĆ, Senior scientist at TNO – the Netherlands, Organisation for
Applied Scientific Research, Department of Geo-energy, Utrecht, Netherlands
ROCK MECHANICS FOR DEEP SUBSURFACE GEO-ENERGY
APPLICATIONS
Dr. Haris Saroglou is a Senior Teaching & Research Associate in the School of
Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens. He holds an M.Sc.
in Engineering Geology from Imperial College, an M.Sc. in Tunneling and a
Ph.D. from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He was a
Lecturer in Engineering Geology/ Rock Mechanics in the Department of Civil
& Environmental Engineering in Imperial College, London (2013- 2016). He
has received an Honor from the Academy of Athens (2009) for his research and
the Richard Wolters Prize by the International Association of Engineering
Geology and the Environment (IAEG) in 2012. He was Visiting Fellow in the
Institute of Geology & Geophysics in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
under the 2016 President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI). He has
authored 60 publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals and international
Conferences and his research has a strong scientific impact. He is an Editorial
Board Member in the Bulletin of Engineering Geology of IAEG since 2012.
He has extensive experience in consulting in Civil Engineering projects
(highways, tunnels, slope stability, dams) in Greece and abroad. His research
interests are the engineering behavior of rocks and rockmasses, weak rocks and
complex formations, the engineering geology of major infrastructure works,
geological hazard evaluation and risk (landslides and rockfalls) as well as
protection of cultural heritage sites.
