be checked to the board and that the correct firing pulses are
going to the active field thyristors.
If _an armature unbalance condition occurs when running the
motors it may be possible to rectify this situation by adjust-
ing the value of R80 (or R31). This should be done by Fitting
a variable resister (resistar selector) in place of R30 cr 31
and adjusting the resistor value whilst monitoring the motor
armature currents on load (this is best done with a clip-on
ammeter). The two armature curren§s can be balanced by adjust-
ing the resistance value.
Armature unbalance may be caused by mechanical problems so
it is worthwhile checking mud pump drive chains, sprockets
and crank shafts ta verify this.
If unbalance continues the HED should be checked out. This
can be done by measuring the resistance of the HED unit
(supply should be isolated), It has four terminals and
should measure approximately four ohms between IC + and
IC - and four chms between + and -, The output of the HED
(measured between + and - terminals) should be 0.36V per
000A unbalance current, that is the difference between the
armature currents.
NB. Some older HED’s have an output of 0.85V per 1000A.
CHECKING PROCEDURE - GENERAL
Moter fields are approximately 2 ohms and should not be
ggrounded, however, the field supply is floating with respect
te earth and it can tolerate one ground fault.
Fields should be meggered to ground at regular intervals to
check for patentiel ground faults but they must be discenn-
ected from the field supply before doing so
