Brigham Young University features NASA space program executive as speaker at Tuesday
forum
PROVO, UT -- Brigham Young University has invited an out-of-this-world speaker, Alan Stern, to speak
at its forum on January 28th at 11:05 a.m. in the BYU Marriott Center. Stern is a NASA Planetary
Scientist and Space Program Executive who is also the principal investigator of the New Horizons
mission to explore Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. Visit the Marriott Center on the 28th to expand your
knowledge of your universe and to hear from one of Time’s most influential people of 2016.
When asked why he decided to focus on exploring the Kuiper Belt and Pluto, Stern explained,
“the outer solar system is a wild, wooly place. That region of the solar system is much more primitive. It's
much more like the formation days. And because we know so little, we have so much to gain.”
Just like he has so much to gain exploring the outer solar system, you also have so much to gain by
attending his forum. BYU senior Astrology student, Bradly Jameson, said, “I’m very excited for the
opportunity to hear from a professional within the field that I’m studying. This makes me feel that BYU is
aware of its students and desires to help us as much as possible!”
Brigham Young University holds forums in the Marriot Center at 11:05 a.m. on the last Tuesday of every
month. These forums are held to diversify topics that BYU students are knowledgeable on and to hear
from professionals in various industries. Visit the website at www.speeches.byu.edu to find the schedule
and more information about the speakers.
