BRACED CUTS

When the excavation obtained a large depth (having a depth of more than six meters), the
sheet piles need to be laterally supported by horizontal struts. These supported sheet pile walls
are called Braced Cuts.

Assumptions:

 Stability of excavation must be determined.

 Determine the depth of excavation on each structure in order to check if braced cut is
necessary.
 Analyze the reaction of strut and knowing the strut load at each level.

Constraints:

 The depth of excavation is not yet determined since the load on each building is not yet
provided.

Resolution:

 Research and comprehend the formulas needed and provide an excel file for the analysis
of strut loads and reactions.
