Essay 1: There are a variety of times in which I have contributed to help the community. For example, I am in 3 clubs in my school that either do something for society or the environment. All 3 hold a big place in my heart, but there’s one event that is the most memorable to me. My church holds many events to give to those in need, and one of the biggest events I’ve been a part of is known as Strive. Strive is an event where all the students break into groups and separate into all different parts of the city to contribute to those in need in a variety of ways. My group and I went to this book storage and we cleaned up books of all genres. We wiped the covers front and back till clean, flipped through all the pages, and we got any food or gunk off. As a team, my group and I set up hundreds of books to be donated to children in need. Not all parents can afford to spend money on anything extra, including novels, so it definitely gave me a very cheerful and positive mood. Other groups split up to paint schools, paint sidewalks, help out at 3 square (a food store), and help out at St. Judes. Afterwards, we see videos from the impacts that we had on the community and people and it’s probably the best feeling I’ve ever had. To see the effects that you have on others brings such a positive feeling to your heart. Many different types of volunteer work, don’t show you the effects that you had on others but this event does. I love being able to help others and see how thankful people are. Volunteering has a special place in my heart and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this event. Although there are many different times in which I have contributed to the community, Strive had to have been the most memorable and meaningful. Essay 2: For a couple of years I juggled with what I wanted to do for my future career, but whatever I chose I knew that I wanted to do something that involved helping others. At first I wanted to become a surgeon then a pediatric surgeon. For a few reasons, I decided that wasn’t what I wanted to do and I began to look at a variety of different nursing majors. I first wanted to be just a regular nurse with an RN before I started researching physician assistants and nurse practitioners. After looking into the differences between each type of nurse, I decided I wanted to become a nurse practitioner. There are events in my life both personally and socially that have allowed me to separate what I want to do for a living. The passing of my aunt and my dads knee replacements allowed me to discover that I really love helping people and giving them hope and positivity in all situations. The 3 clubs that I’m involved in with my school, as well as my church, allowed me to experience the feeling of contributing to those in need. One of the things that I strongly dislike is seeing people with negative attitudes. I feel as though everyone should live life to the fullest because you never know when your last day is going to be. For example, I tried to give my aunt some positivity whenever she was looking down on her situation and I tried to do a bunch of fun activities with her and my cousins to make her happy. Fortunately it worked, but no time with her was ever going to be enough. In another situation, my dad was very negative about his knee surgery because he felt that a lot of his thrilling activities such as skiing and wake boarding were no longer going to be possible. I continued to tell him every day that it would all be worth it because he would no longer be in pain and there would be many activities that he could perform that would also be fun. I want to share this positivity with many more people in society. By becoming a nurse practitioner, I’m not only achieving the career of my dreams, but I’m doing the things that I love to benefit society. I want to spread positivity to people in need of hope while also helping people physically. My goal here is to attend college for 4 years to get my RN and then continuing for an additional 2 years to obtain the knowledge needed so that I may become a nurse practitioner. In doing so, I will be able to do what I dream of which is helping those in need and spreading positivity.
