The work is scheduled to start on 6th December 2010. A kick-off meeting is scheduled on that
day at 8 AM. Do you know the client Manager? He is Mr. Anantha Narayanan Sankaran, a
young chap, very brilliant but a bit of perfectionist.

As we are living in a world of jacks of puzzles, Life is not as easy as it seems. Umesh will
have a tough time to manage the project. Umesh has noted down few constraints, which are
mentioned below.

 Development team under Jyoti Krishnan Pillai works from Pune PSL campus and
testing team under Sridhar Bhubanagiri works from Hyderabad.
 PSL working hours is from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM lunch
break.
 Ankit has engagement on 20th Dec. He needs a leave from 16th Dec to 24th Dec.
 Jai has a small kid of only 1 year old. He has to take his child for check up every
Wednesday evening. For this Jai has to leave office by 4:30 PM. For this Jai comes
office early by 8 AM on each Thursday and Friday.
 Alankar usually leave early on Friday by 4:30 PM to meet his girl friend, though this
is under Umesh’s discretion. But in past Umesh never told him to cancel his
appointment.
 Nishant wants to go home in Jan 2010. The dates are not fixed yet. He needs 1 week
leave for that.
 Testing team have an outing planned on 25th Dec weekend. So, they will not work on
next Monday.
 5th Jan is holiday for Hyderabad campus of PSL, whereas 4th Jan is holyday for Pune.
 Sridhar after the studying the initial requirement, found that testing team needs
training for a new functionality used in this project. He has scheduled the training for
both Rakesh and Jeevan from 13th to 17th Dec 2010.
 Jeevan always comes late on Tuesday by 11:00 AM. But he stays till 7 PM. Though
work scheduled for others on that day was not hampered because of this.
 Rakesh needs a leave on 2nd week of Jan as his sister’s marriage is scheduled during
that week.
 At any given day, no two associates can get a leave.
 For simplicity, we can assume that both Jyoti and Sridhar will work as team member
in this project. But during review meeting with PLL Manager Anantha both of them
has to present for the entire time mentioned above. (So, for 4 hours mentioned, both
of them will have to be present for 2 hours each.)
 But Anantha is available for review only on Monday and Tuesday.
 Umesh will supervise the entire project and he is a non-billable associate for this
project (that means his work will not be counted the estimated man-hours mentioned
above).
 Needless to say, testing team will do only testing and development team will do only
development and Document preparation like A. B, C, and E etc.
 If there is no work for any associates on a given day, Umesh would send him on
training for the whole day. There are separate training dept in PSL. For training, Team
lead will always get preference.
 Remember that the ultimate goal is to maximize the resource utilization.

After noting down all these constraints, Umesh become so confused he wants you to prepare
a project schedule for him along with resource utilization. The project schedule should
contain the detailed hours spending by each associates on each day. Sample format is given in
the excel sheet attached (the data is not the actual one). Umesh wants you to suggest an end-
date to Anantha and you already come to know how perfectionist Anantha is.
