7. RIGHT
8. TRIANGLE
Very Good.

C. ANALYSIS

Based on our first activity, what do you think is (Student’s answer may vary)
our topic for today?

Very Good. Our topic for today is all about the

Pythagorean Theorem and Right Triangle
Similarity.

What is a Pythagorean Theorem? The Pythagorean Theorem is a

fundamental principle in geometry,
specifically for right-angled triangles. It
states that in a right triangle, the square
of the length of the hypotenuse (c) is
equal to the sum of the squares of the
lengths of the other two sides (a and b).
Mathematically, it's represented as
a²+b²=c².

Excellent. Now, I will show you a right triangle.

Name the sides of the right triangle and identify
what part of the right triangle each side that
you’ve mentioned.

In the right △ABC with ∠C as the right

triangle, a and b are the lengths of the
legs, c is the length of the hypotenuse,
and a²+b²=c².

The Pythagorean Theorem is applied in solving

for the lengths of the sides of a right triangle
and the side lengths of other figures involving
right triangles.

Example.

Solution:
a²+b²=c²
3²+8²=c².
9+64= c².
√73= √c².
√73=c
8.544 = c

Solution:
a²+b²=c²
a²+24²=25².
a²= 25²-24².
a²= 25²-24².
a²= 625-576
√a²=√49
a=7

a. A 10 feet ladder against a vertical wall, if Illustration:

the foot of the ladder is 6 feet from the
wall, how high does the ladder reach?

Solution:
a²+b²=c²
6²+b²=10²
36+b²=100
b²=100-36
√b²=√64
b=8
therefore, the ladder reaches at 8 feet.

b. The length of the diagonal of a rectangle is Solution:

12 units. What is the width if the length of Let w be the width, l be the length, and d
the rectangle is 6√3 units? be the length of diagonal, which is equal
to 12 units.

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem:

w² + l² = d²
w² + (6√3) ² = 12²
w² = 12² - (6√3) ²
w² = 144 – 108
w² = √36 or 6
Answer: The width of the rectangle is 6
units.
What is Theorem 4.30? If the square of the length of the longest
side of a triangle is equal to the sum of
the squares of the other two sides, then
the triangle is a right triangle.

Given: △ABC with c as the length of the longest

side a and b as the length of the other two
sides.

If c²=a²+b²
Prove: △ABC is a right triangle.

Example.
a= 5; b= 12 and c= 13 Solution;
c²=a²+b²
13²=5²+12²
169=25+144
169=169
The triangle formed is a right triangle.

What is Theorem 4.31? If the square of the length of the longest

side of a triangle is greater than the sum
of squares of the lengths of the other two
sides, then it is an obtuse triangle.

Given: △ABC with c as the length of the

longest side a and b as the length of the other
two sides.

If c²>a²+b²
Prove: △ABC is an obtuse triangle.

Example.
a= √7; b= √8 and c= √17 Solution:
c>a²+b²
(√17) ²> (√7) ²+( √8) ²
17>7+8
17>15
The triangle formed is an obtuse triangle.

What is Theorem 4.32? If the square of the length of the longest

side of a triangle is less than the sum of
squares of the lengths of the other two
sides, then it is an acute triangle.
Given: △ABC with c as the length of the longest
side a and b as the length of the other two
sides.

If c²<a²+b²
Prove: △ABC is an acute triangle.

Example.
a= 8; b= 10 and c= 12 Solution:
c²<a²+b²
12²<8²+10²
144<64+100
144<164
The triangle formed is an acute triangle.

What is (45°-45°-90° Triangle Theorem)?

In the 45°-45°-90° triangle, the length of

the hypotenuse is √2 times the length of
each leg.

Given:
45°-45°-90° triangle with l and h as the
lengths of the legs and hypotenuse,
respectively.

Next. What is (30°-60°-90° Triangle

Theorem)?

In a 30°-60°-90° triangle, the length of the

hypotenuse is twice the length of the
shorter leg, and the length of the longer
leg is √3 times the length of the shorter
leg.

Given:
30-60°-90° triangle
with √3 as the length of the side
opposite the 30° angle.
x as the length of the side opposite the
60° angle, and 2 as the length of the
hypotenuse.

D. ABSTRACTION

Very Good!

E. APPLICATION

Remain in your group.

Solve the following problems on the board.
Raise your hand if you want to answer. Each
group will be given a problem for the
members to solve. Write your answer in a
manila paper. I will give 15 minutes to finish
the activity. after 15 minutes assign one
member to report/explain your answer. Is
everything clear? Yes Sir!

1.

3²+b²=5²
9+b²=25
b²=25-9
√b²=√16
B= 4

2.

Solution:
f²+g²=h²
5²+12²=h²
25+144= h²
√169= √h²
13=h
3.

x²+y²=z²
x²+24²=25²
x²+576=625
x²=625-576
√x²= √49
x= 7

4. The size of a TV Screen is given by the

length of its diagonal. If the dimension of a
TV screen is 16 inches by 14 inches, what
is size of the TV screen?

Solution:
a²+b²=c²
16 inches²+14 inches² =c²
256 inches+196 inches =c²
√452 inches= √c²
2√113 inches= c

Very Good.

F. VALUES INTEGRATION

"Triangles teach us the language of angles

and sides, where the Pythagorean melody
harmonizes with the symmetry of similarity,
unveiling the geometric poetry within right
triangles."

What do you think is the meaning of this The saying emphasizes the beauty and
message? interconnectedness found in the study of
triangles. It highlights how the
Pythagorean Theorem, symmetry in
similarity, and the various triangle
theorems come together to form a
harmonious understanding of geometry.
The use of "geometric poetry" suggests
that there's an elegance and artistry in
discovering the relationships between
angles and sides in triangles.
Very Good.

Triangles serve as the building blocks of

geometry, teaching us the fundamental
language of angles and sides. Much like
learning the basics of a language enables
effective communication, understanding
triangles allows us to grasp essential
geometric concepts. The Pythagorean
Theorem adds a melodic layer to this
understanding, harmonizing with the
symmetry of similarity to reveal the elegant
relationships within right triangles. Exploring
these concepts is akin to unraveling a poetic
form, unveiling the geometric poetry that lies
at the heart of the world of triangles.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: On a sheet of paper complete the measures of the dimensions of
each triangle using Pythagorean Theorem formula.

V. Assignment

Direction: Draw what type of triangle and solve the problems below.

1. A ladder leans against a wall. The base of the ladder is 8 feet away from
the wall, and the ladder is 10 feet long. How far is the top of the ladder from
the ground?
2. An anchor line for a tower needs to be replaced. The tower is 96 ft.
tall. The anchor line is 105 ft. long. How far from the tower can it be
placed, to the nearest foot?
