IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new What was our topic last meeting?
lesson  Right triangle
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Present the objectives to be achieved at the end of the lesson:
 State the Pythagorean Theorem.
 Prove the Pythagorean Theorem.
 Develop patience and perseverance in solving problems using Pythagorean Theorem.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson Find the measurement of the unknown side of the right triangle.
Given: Solution:
a = 7. c² = a² + b²
b=5 = (7)² + (5)²
c=? = 49 + 25
c² = 74 c = 8.6
Therefore, the measure of the hypothenuse of the given triangle is approximately 8.60.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills (Discuss the Pythagorean Theorem)
#1 1. Who is the founder of Pythagorean Theorem?
2. What is the formula of Pythagorean Theorem?
3. (Recall the name of the sides of a right triangle)
 Hypotenuse The longest side of a right triangle, opposite to the right angle.
 The other two sides of a right triangle is called legs.
4. What are the steps to solve the pythagorean theorem.
Step 1: Draw a right triangle and then read through the problems again to determine the length of the legs and
the hypotenuse.
Step 2: Use the Pythagorean Theorem (a2 + b2 = c2) to write an equation to be solved.
Step 3: Simplify the equation by distributing and combining like terms as needed.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills (Discuss the proof of Pythagorean Theorem)
#2 1. Why do we need to learn the Pythagorean Theorem?
Pythagorean theorem is very important in solving real life problems or situations involving right triangles.
 The real life application of pythagorean theorem
Example#1. A shed with a pent roof need to have some roof beam fitted. The width of the said is 6m and the
height of the pent roof is 4 m. How long does the roof beam needed in one side?

Given: Solution:
a = 6m. c² = a² + b²
b= 4m = (6)² + (4)²
c=? = 36 + 16
c² = 52
c = 7.21

Therefore, the roof beam needed for one side of

the shed is approximately 7.21 meters.

Example#2. A 10ft ladder is leaning against a 9ft

vertical wall. How far is the foot of the ladder from
the vertical wall.
Given:
a=?
b = 9ft
c = 10ft.
Solution:
c² = a² + b²
c² - b² = a² + b² - b²
c² - b² = a²
(10)² - (9)² = a², 100 - 81 = a²,19 = a, a = 4.36ft
Therefore, the foot of the ladder is 4.36ft away from the vertical wall.

F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative (Application)

Assessment 3)  There are two problems given and you will answer each for one minute.
 If you can answer it before the time and you can tell
us your answer
1. A 20 feet ladder was placed against the building to reach
a window that is 16 feet above the ground. How many
feet away from the building is the bottom of the ladder?
Given: Solution:
a=? c² = a² + b²
b = 6. 20² = a² + 16²
c = 20. 400 = a² + 256
400 - 256 = a²
144 = a²
a = 12
Therefore. the bottom of the ladder is 12 ft away from the
building.
2. The size of a tv screen is given by the length of its
diagonal. If the dimension of a tv screen is 16 inches by
14 inches what is the size of the tv screen?
Given: Solution:
a = 16 inches c² = a² + b²
b = 14 inches c² = (16)² + (14)²
c² = ? c² = 256 + 196
c² = 452
c = 21.26
Therefore, the size of the tv screen is 21.26 in.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and (Solve the height of the tree)
skills in daily living Given:
a = 12 meters
b = ???
c = 20 meters
Solution:
c² = a² + b²
(20)² = (12)² + b²
400 = 144 + b²
400 - 144 = b²
256 = b²
b = 16
Therefore, the height of the tree is 16 meters.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the 1. What is formula of Pythagorean Theorem?
lesson  c²=a²+b²
2. Who can state the Pythagorean Theorem?
 Pythagorean Theorem - The square of the hypotenuse in a right triangle is equal to the sum of the
squares of the legs.
3. Who is the founder of Pythagorean Theorem?
 Pythagoras
I. Evaluating learning (Acitivity)
