Right triangle
– A right triangle is one in which one of the angles is 90°
– It is a closed figure polygon that has three(3) sides and
angles.
Here’s the angle

Here’s the hyp

adjacent

• We call the longest side the hypotenuse

• We call the two arms of the right triangle as the adjacent and
opposite.
The Pythagorean theorem was discovered by Pythagoras through the ropes that
were used to calculate lengths needed to build pyramids in order to lay their
foundations accurately.
FORMULA
c2= a2 + b2
b2= c2 - a2
a 2 = c 2 - b2

Application problem:
1. To get from point A to point B you
must avoid walking through the
pond . To avoid the pond, you must
walk 34 meters south and 41
meters east . How many meters
would be saved if it were possible
to walk through the pond?

c2= a2+b2
No. of meters would be saved
c2= 342 + 412
41+ 34= 75
c2=2,837
75 - 53.26= 21.74 yards
c= 53.26 yards

Another example:

A. B. C.

sin 35=x/7 cos 65= x/10 Tan 72= x/20

x= sin 35x 7 x = 4.23m X= tan 72 x20
x=4.02 cm X=61.55 cm
Application problem:

1. A sailboat has a large sail in the shape of a right triangle.

The longest edge of the sail measures 17 yards, and the
bottom edge of the sail is 8 yards. How tall is the sail?

17
yards
b?

c2= a2+b2 8 yards

b2= = c2-a2

b2= 172-82

b= 15 yards
2. A buoy has formed an angle of 6
degrees to the top of the lighthouse
130 feet above the surface of the
water . Find the distance from the
base of the lighthouse to the buoy.
2. A ladder leans against a brick wall.
The foot of the ladder ifs 6 ft. from
the wall. The ladder reaches a
height of 15 ft. on the wall. Find the
angle of the ladder makes with the
wall.

Answer:
3. Solve the value of x of the given
figure.

Tan 45=100/y
y= 100

Tan 60= x+100/y y?

Tan 60=x+100/100
Tan 60 x100= x+100
173.21= x+100
x= 173.21-100
x= 73.21
