HUMAN PERSON

Estañol (2007)- defines human person as having physical,


spiritual, emotional and intellectual attributes.

St. Thomas Aquinas- defines human person as having


physical and spiritual substance because he/she has a soul
and is created by a Super Being with a divine purpose.
Characteristics of a Human
Person
According to Babor (2007) book:

 A Human Person is a rational being

 A Human Person is born free

 A Human Person is unique


Characteristics of a
Human Person
 Every person is intrinsically a social being and cannot
detach himself/herself from other creatures in the
universe

 All living things are sexual by nature, but the


uniqueness of expression of a person’s sexuality
makes him/her different.
BIBLICAL VIEWS

- the Human Person has


superiority and dignity inherited
from the supreme being
- Human nature was patterned
after the image of God
Philosophical Views
According to:
1. Protagoras – human person is the measure of all
things that exist and of all things that do not exist

2. Plato – claimed that the perfect human being


does not exist in this world because is in this
world is just an imperfect copy of humanity’s
original self in the realm of ideas

the Human Being, explains the different
philosophical views of the human person includes:
- Conservatism
- Liberalism
- Socialism
- Fascism
CLASSICAL GREEK
VIEWS
- defines the human person as “ a
rational animal”.

- capable of knowing, loving and


believing which leads him/her to be
fully aware of his/her surrounding.
Sociological Views
According to San Juan (2007)
- Human persons are social animals.
- Human person’s social behavior is learned, not
instinctive.
- focus attention on the groups to which people you
belong.
- looks into the totality of relationships in an
individuals life.
Hierarchy of Needs by Maslow

 Physiology – Food, Water, Shelter, Warmth


 Safety- Security, stability, freedom from fear
 Love/Belonging- Friends, family, spouse,
lover
 Self-Esteem – Achievement, mastery,
recognition, respect
 Self Actualization- pursue inner talent,
creativity, fulfillment
