Unit Plan
Objectives:
Psychomotor:

 Students will be able to perform the underhand serve individually with a


partner(s) at a basic level of competency.
 Students will be able to perform the forehand and backhand stroke
individually and with partner(s) at a basic level of competency.
 Students will be able to perform correct stance and footwork during
gameplay.

Cognitive:
 Students will be able to determine the rules and strategies of badminton.
 Students will be able to remember and apply cues and steps needed to
perform forehead stroke, backhand stroke, and underhand serve.

Affective:
 Students will be able to create an inclusive environment with their peers.
 Students will be able to provide appropriate feedback to peers.
Overview of Badminton Unit Plan :
Class sessions will begin by performing dynamic exercises that consist of 3 total
stretches focusing on flexibility and lower body to ensure that students reduce
the risk of injury during the activities. Students will join their assigned lines and
perform each exercise twice the width of the basketball court. To begin the
lesson, students will be informed of the skills and activities to be accomplished for
the day followed by verbal and non verbal cues.

The goal of this unit plan is for students to understand basic skills such as
underhand serve, forehead stroke, and backhand stroke that can be applied in a
closed and open environment such as in singles and doubles match applying the
correct rules. Students progress from learning the necessary stance to begin
serving, how to hold the shuttle and the direction of the serve, the cues that are
applied to underhand serving. Students then learn the guidelines and rules that
are applied during gameplay of a singles and doubles match through
demonstrations. Furthermore, progressing into utilize the underhand serve within
an open environment with a partner in small sided activities. Next, learning the
essential cues and steps to performing backhand and forehand strokes in small
sided activities individually and with partners. Finally, students apply their
knowledge of rules and skills into singles and doubles matches applying scoring
methods and strategies.
