The document discusses conclusions and future work from a study on reducing battery drain in wireless networks. It summarizes that an adaptive Hello interval mechanism based on node event intervals can suppress unnecessary Hello messages, decreasing network overhead and energy consumption while maintaining link detection. Simulation results showed this approach has higher throughput and less energy use than periodic Hello messages. The authors plan to further improve the results to 100% and implement the method in ns-2 to compare performance under varying network parameters.

An adaptive Hello interval to reduce battery drain through practical suppression of
unnecessary Hello messaging. Based on the event interval of a node, the Hello interval can be enlarged without reduced detectability of a broken link, which decreases network overhead and hidden energy consumption .The simulation results showed that our mechanism works better than periodic hello message scheme with high throughput and reduced energy consumption.
7.2 FUTURE WORK
In future it is planned to generalize the proposed method by improving the result
to 100%. As a part of this future work, this can be implemented in ns-2 and compare the results taking various metrics like Packet Delivery Ratio and Throughput by varying different network parameters.
