1.0 OBJECTIVES

1) To study the properties of unfilled and filled rubber compound on the compression test
2) To determine the elastic properties of rubber compound specimens according to
compression time

2.0 EXPERIMENTAL
2.1 MATERIALS
Four compounds of NR, NR-Si composite, SBR and SBR-Si composite.
2.2 METHODOLOGY
2.2.1 The thickness of samples was measured and the thickness of space bar was
measured by using vernier calliper.
2.2.2 The test specimen was placed between the plates of the compression device with the
spacers on each side.
2.2.3 The amount of compression employed shall be approximately 25 %.
2.2.4 The samples were placed in the oven in the temperature of 70°C for 22 hours.
2.2.5 The samples were taken out immediately after 22 hours and were allowed to cool
for about 30 minutes.
2.2.6 The final thickness of test specimens were measured at the center of the test
specimens after cooling and the compression set of NR, NR-Si, SBR and SBR-Si
were determined
