LABORATORY TASK
TASK 1 – TOPOGRAPHIC MAP VS NAUTICAL CHART

OBJECTIVE

1. To identify the definition and the purpose of Topographic Map.


2. To identify the definition and the purpose of Nautical Chart.
3. To compare and differentiate the main characteristics between topographic map and the
nautical chart.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. This task needs to be done in group (five students per group).


2. All the comparisons made must be accompany by appropriate figures or picture.
3. Please put the reference for each figure or picture that you put in the report.
4. The comparison can be made based on these map aspects:
a. Map source / map producer
b. Map elements (legend, north arrow, grid, etc.)
c. Map size and map scale
d. Symbology and colour used
e. Typography setting
f. Type of geographical data shown in map

; or any other important map aspect that you can think of.

5. Recommend that you structure your report as follows:


a. Title page
b. Introduction
c. Main content
d. Conclusion
e. Comments / recommendation (by each group member)
f. Bibliography

6. Report for this Laboratory Task 1 must be submitted in PDF format.


7. Due date: no later than Tuesday, 21 April 2020.
