Teachers are en- couraged to add to the plans as no time limits are placed on the activities or skills. Teacher materials often refer to large flashcards. These can be made with the help of student artists or clipart illustrations. The cards should be large enough for the whole class to see. Small flashcards are also teacher-made index cards with sample questions, phrases, or vocabulary to reinforce the lesson being taught. The list of words for each set of flashcards is provided on the lesson plan, worksheet, or answer key. Several ways to supplement the lessons are provided in the back of the book. When you have five minutes between lessons, turn to the additional conversation or handwriting prac- tice in the Reinforcement section. Teach Christmas carols and sing Happy Birthday in Span: ish, Refer to the suggested bibliography to obtain the best children’s literature offered in Spanish. A glossary and answer keys are provided for your convenience. Note: If you would like to copy all the student pages and bind them into a workbook, we recommend you renumber pages before duplicating Directions for Games Hands Off Hands off is a chalkboard game in which two teams of students compete against each other. The teacher says a word in Spanish and one student from each team writes the cortect answer and covers the answer with his/her hands. When the teacher says, “Hands off,” the students uncover their answers. The students with correct answers receive points ‘The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Spanish Bea 'A Spanish Bee can be from English to Spanish or from Spanish to English. Tell the students a day in advance that you will be playing the Spanish Bee game so they have time to practice. Divide the class into two teams. The teacher gives a Spanish phrase. The first player on one team translates the given phrase. If the answer is correct, give the team cone of two points. If the translation is incorrect, award zero points. (You may award one point for partially correct translations.) Alternate teams and players after each turn, No one ever sits down as in a traditional spelling bee. Bingo Duplicate the bingo gameboard indicated. Have students randomly write the words or numbers on the bingo gameboards. As the teacher calls out the words, the students cover the words (in the opposite language). Besides the traditional across, down, or diagonal, the students may win with the comers, an X, aT, or other shape of your choice. © Instructional Fair * TS Denison ae4@ ‘IF21049 Teach Them Spanish!—Grad: Numbers 0-20 Teacher Lesson Plan] Activity Directions Materials rel ‘Teach the Spanish number words 0-20 orally. 6 | Independent practice Pronounce and have students recite the numbers on the flashcards. ‘Students complete Numbers, * large flashcards (Write a number between 0-20 on each card.)
