Staff,

In an effort to make sure things run smoothly let’s all make sure we are
following the policies on these things:

1-Make sure to charge patrons .50 Look-Up Fee

2-Headphones are only for children while using the children’s computers. If
adults need something, they may purchase earbuds from us.

3-Be sure to make Tally Marks on the stat sheet as you go---it is much easier and
more accurate this way as opposed to trying to catch it up later in the day.

4-When time allows, be sure to call patrons who have “Hold” books ready for
pick up. These should be looked at weekly and if you find books that have been
here for at least a week, try calling the patron once more. Let them know you
can hold an additional week, and then it has to be returned to loaning library
location.

5-Make sure you are shelf-reading as you shelve/straighten books. This is

something that has got to be done constantly. I have decided it may be best for
everyone to be responsible for a specific section.

Rose- All Children’s

Eric- Adult NF and All YA, Foreign Language, and Reference

Lavania-Adult Fiction

Carolyn-Adult PB and All Large Type

Every effort is made to keep the shelving current, but when there is only one
person at the Circulation Desk, this cannot be done. We always need to have at
least one person at the desk at all times. If there are two people working
together, that is the time for someone to shelve.
I am not supposed to work the Circulation Desk on a regular basis, only when
it’s extremely busy, or if there is a staffing problem. I regularly shelve
throughout the day, so as not to have a lot left at the end of my shift. Keep in
mind sometimes a lot of books come in late in the day, or our delivery from
Kinston could be delayed, therefore the shelving may not be completed.

If we each do our part adhering to policy, everything will run smoothly.

Thanks,

Donna
