The price of dentistry can be expensive, but there's no comparison and doing it yourself is never

advised.

But orthodontics is a whole new ball game that should involve x-rays, specialist advice and regular
check-ups - which is why the DIY braces which is sweeping in the Philippines is really dangerous.

In Mamplasan NHS, 3 students have been found using DIY braces, as they were recruiting other
students to be braced in a cheap price. They have suppliers of dental braces which they can
personally stick and fix brackets to their own teeth, pulling the wire through and try to straighten their
tegs without professional help.

So far, no serious effect was observed yet, their teachers have advised them to see a dentist
immediately. As for the dental cost, it is free for the students in the Public School where there is a
license dentist who is really tasked to do Dental Check ups in schools.

This problem is not just in our school, it is now escalated to the Philippine Dental Association where
they have released a note to the public urging them not to do their own orthodontic work.

Dr. Ortiz said that "It is of high probability that self-installation of the co-called do-it-yourself products
will lead to potential injury to the user in the absence of professional supervision."

They also asked students or anyone who would know those who keep engaging with any
unauthorised or illegal dentistry.
