ASSIGNMENT ON COUNSELLING

1) LEGITIMATE EDUCATIONAL INTEREST

Your cousin coaches soccer. He would like information on a student in
your school that he coaches. He is very fond of young man who seems to
be having mission difficulty. The coach asked the boys parents about the
problem and the parents dismissed it with “he can see, he is just
uncoordinated”. your cousin would like for you to look at the vision
screen results in this child students record to see if a problem has been
noted. Is there an ethical or legal dilemma here?

I see a legal dilemma here since It is not legal to look at the child
students record, and it cannot be disclosed without the consent.
The child parents has clearly stated as he can see and therefore the
coach and his cousin cannot use the student report without their
consent.
2) PRIVACY RIGHTS & SAME SEX COUPLES
A principal has called two girls into his office who were kissing in the
hallway. Despite the girls pleas , he calls their parents to tell them the
code of conduct they violated and also the gender of the partner. One
students parent sues for breach of her child privacy rights. Did her
daughter give up her privacy rights when she was kissing her girlfriend in
the hallway?
No the daughter did not give up her privacy rights. She has violated the
code of conduct by kissing her girlfriend in the hallway.
3) SEXUALLY ACTIVE TEENS
You are a school counsellor who is counselling a young woman who is 15
and sexually active. Should you notify her parents that their daughter is
sexually active?
A school counsellor must maintain confidentiality however in this case
the young woman is underage and may not understand the trouble she
might face at this age like teenage pregnancy and it is dangerous for her
health.
To protect the young woman, the counsellor should notify her parents
about their daughter is being sexually active.
