Assignment

CBT Session between Dr. Judy Ho and the host, Kyle

1) Again Identify the Techniques used often in CBT

The Cognitive behaviour technique used in the session is Laddering.

Laddering is a technique used to identify the core beliefs of an individual that

shapes their assumptions and rules (people use rules to behave in ways to
protect their core beliefs).

The technique helps by identifying the chain of automatic thoughts that linked to
one another until finding out the core belief of oneself which gives them the
identity and shaping their thoughts. It works by asking the questions to one self
"what if it is true and what does it mean to you?

By identifying the core beliefs of the self, It can be challenged in a testable

situations to test the outcome with their assumption. When the assumptions and
outcomes contraficts each other, it gives an evidence that their negative core
belief is wrong and new belief can be created that brings new rules in changing
their behaviour.

2) What is the sample issue of Kyle

The sample issue of Kyle is that "I might not find someone who loves me"

Dr. Judy ho used the laddering technique to break down this negative automatic
thoughts of Kyle by asking what does this mean to you?. Kyle answering those
questions leads dr judy ho to find out his core belief that 'I am worthless'.
3) In your observation give the positive and negative approach on this therapy

The positive approach of this therapy is that client is able to become aware of
their automatic thoughts and core beliefs.

The negative apptoach is by testing the negative core beliefs in practical

situations.
