GESTALT THERAPY

https://youtu.be/ahm-ALEOscc

1) The technique used in the counselling session is ROLE PLAY ' two chair
technique'

This simple approach is designed to work through interpersonal or internal

conflict. It helps to see the situation from a different perspective and gain insight
into feelings and behaviors.

2) SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TECHNIQUE

* This technique helps bring into the “here and now” of present experiences. * As
verbalizing what’s going on, the abstract becomes more concrete.

* taking on the other person’s role, helps in gaining insight into your own
perspective as well as theirs.

* If the chair represents part of you or an internal conflict, you experience

different aspects of yourself and gain insight into your struggle.

This discovery aspect is the ultimate goal of gestalt therapy and the empty chair
technique.

3) POSITIVE ASPECTS

* Substantial increase in self-awareness and self-acceptance

* Improved ability to live fully in the present moment

* Improved communication skills

* Better and satisfying relationships with others

* A greater understanding of your behaviors and the meaning you’ve attached to

them

* Greater ability to tolerate negative emotions rather than escape, suppress, or

avoid them

NEGATIVE ASPECTS

* The technique has limitations

* It doesnt work with someone having serious mental illness such as

schizophrenia.

* It might provide the opposite effects of what is is expected, rather than dealing
with the conflicts it may overwhelm the individual with their conflicts and
problems by making the more aware of it.
