LITURGICAL CYCLE A
MONTHLY CHAPTER ASSEMBLY
III. OBJECTIVES:
• To teach the kids that Jesus is the greatest gift to mankind and, like him, everyone
born is presented to God through Baptism
• To remind the kids that through our baptism, we are also called to be a gift to
others
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon
blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall
and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself
a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” There was
also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was
advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and
then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped
night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave
thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of
Jerusalem.
When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to
Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with
wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.
STORYLINE
(NOTE: The Speaker can use the storyline to better explain the Gospel to the kids. Be
creative! It may be delivered interactively through photos or role playing.)
▪ This month, the Church will celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in
the Temple. (This feast happens forty days after Christmas.) It is when Joseph
and Mary presented Jesus to the temple.
▪ You see, Joseph and Mary follow the Law of Moses. According to the law, the
first-born son is to be presented and offered to the Lord in the Temple in
Jerusalem. Jesus, as the first-born of Joseph and Mary, was presented to the
Lord as a gift.
▪ A very prayerful man named Simeon was there at the temple during the time
of the presentation. He has been there at the temple praying and waiting for
the Savior. He was promised by the Holy Spirit that he would see the Savior
before he dies.
▪ There was another person who was also there at the temple during the
presentation of Jesus. Do you remember her name? She was Anna.
▪ Anna spoke to the people at the temple that Jesus is the promised Savior.
▪ After all the ceremonies, Joseph, Mary and Jesus went home to Galilee in
Nazareth while both Simeon and Anna celebrated because they were able to
see the promised Savior of Israel.
Instructions:
VII. PEPTALK
1. Do you believe that baby Jesus is a gift? (Yes!) Who among you here has a baby in
their home? (Let them raise their hands) Did you know that babies are a gift to the
family? (Let them respond) Babies are both a gift from and to God. Like Jesus, we
were also presented to the Lord by our parents during baptism.
2. Do you remember Simeon and Anna in the story? (Yes!) Like Simeon and Anna, if
we are faithful to God, we can be beautiful gifts to our family and to everyone.
They became beautiful gifts because they pray every day and participate in the
Holy Mass regularly.
3. How can you be a gift to others? (Let them respond) We can be a gift to others by
regularly praying for them and being kind and caring to them. Are you ready to
be a gift? (Let them respond) Let us all together say, “I will be a gift to others, like
Jesus!

X. TAKE HOME ACTIVITY: I WILL BE A GIFT
Instructions:
• Bring home this note to your parents. Complete the sentence below.
Your facilitator will help you write down the names of your mom and
dad.
• When you give it to them, thank them and hug them tightly.
• The topic for this month’s assembly is about faithfulness to God who is the Giver
of all Good Gifts. The kids were taught that the greatest gift mankind have ever
received is Jesus. They were also taught that they were also presented to God
when they were babies during their Baptism and that they, too, are gifts from God
and are meant to bless others.
• For their Take Home Activity, we are encouraged to guide our children as they say
their prayers every night before going to bed. Listen to what they are thanking
God for and to what they are asking.
• Let us remind our children to pray every day to thank God for the blessings
received and to ask God for the things they need. Let us also encourage them to
pray for the needs of other people. Set a time to pray together as a family and to
go to Mass together.
• Aside from their Take Home Activity, take time to discuss the Featured Saint of
the month during Family Time (Family Household). Please ask the intercession of
the featured saint during your Family Prayer Time.
