Skincare Experiment: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Kit

I like Skinfood (there, I said it) but I’m still not totally in love with it. I love their concept of
using natural ingredients in skincare, but I have yet to discover a holy grail product from
them. I tried their Red Orang Sun Pact which is not that bad, but I still prefer the
compacts from other brands. Their face masks are not that bad too, but I see no
difference from those being offered by Etude House and The Face Shop.
The reason why I bought this sample set of Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Kit is
because it’s a DEAL. For $3.72 from RoseRoseShop, I got five different samples from
their Royal Honey Essential line. Hitting (or testing for this matter) five birds with one
stone. And that stone was quite a bang for my buck. But it’s best to buy this deal
together with other products so that you can make the most out of the shipping fees
from RoseRoseShop.
THE BENEFITS OF HONEY AS A COSMETIC INGREDIENT
Honey is an all-around ingredient for skincare. Its antibacterial properties can help treat
acne. It also has clarifying and antiaging properties for the skin. Upon reading on the
benefits of Skinfood’s Royal Honey Essential line, it focuses more on boosting the skin’s
complexion (soothing, moisturizing, getting rid of fine lines, and making your skin look
flawless). Sounds good so far…
THE CONDITION OF MY SKIN BEFORE THE TREATMENT
Here’s the condition of my skin before testing the Royal Honey Essential Kit. My major
acne breakouts have been gone due to multi-step skincare routines I’ve done before. I
still have blemishes and scars from the “war I’ve battled with acne” before, but this is
already an improvement. So I hope this particular Skinfood experiment will create
significant improvements to my skin’s condition.
EXPERIENCES WHILE USING THE SKINCARE KIT
So here are my experiences, in a step-by-step manner, during my five-day test of the
skincare kit.
Step 1: Cleansing
I wasn’t able to buy a Skinfood cleanser, so I just opted for my Celeteque Hydration
Facial Wash and Eskinol Pimple Fighting Facial Wash for a two-step cleansing routine.
Step 2: BHA
I still used my COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol after cleansing. I think I
couldn’t live without this product because it really does keep breakouts at bay.
Step 3: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Toner
Product details from eng.theskinfood.com:
Details
A honey rich toner to smooth and soften complexion.
A luxurious, royal honey toner formulated with Queen’s Multi Nutri™ extract and aged Honey BIO60™
extract to help restore glow and hydration to complexion.

After cleansing, dispense onto a cotton pad and wipe face in an outward motion.

The toner feels gentle to my skin. I’ve heard that some Korean women do a five or
seven layering method in applying toner, but I think two layers using the Royal Honey
Essential Toner is enough for me. I just wanted to apply it up until I could no longer find
traces of dirt on the cotton ball. It does give a softer glow to my skin after application.
Step 4: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Queen’s Serum
Applying serum made my skin look one step better after applying toner. My face looked
cleaner and brighter. I approve of what they say that the serum gives your skin a
beautiful glow.

ⅤUse as primer to hydrate and nourish complexion for flawless makeup application.

After toner, dispense a few pumps and smooth onto face in circular motions.

Step 5: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Emulsion

Details
A honey rich emulsion to soften and restore glow.
A luxurious, royal honey emulsion formulated with Queen’s Multi Nutri™ extract and aged Honey
BIO60™ extract to help restore glow and moisture to complexion.

After toner or serum, apply on face in an outward motion.

My only problem in using this is that the bottle makes it hard for you to get the emulsion
out. However, I no longer thought of that issue when I noticed that my complexion got
significantly brighter because of the emulsion.
Step 6: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Queen’s Cream
The cream felt cool to my face, and at this point, my face looked so shiny already. I
think the cream would be the first one to be consumed in the kit, since it has the
smallest amount among the five samples.

Moisturize complexion from the inside out!
A honey rich cream to moisturize and soothe dry, rough skin.
A rich, moisturizing cream that helps restore glow and hydration for a radiantly illuminated
complexion. A targeted formula features Queen’s Multi Nutri™ extract, which helps lock in long-lasting
moisture. Honey is aged with a special Honey BIO60™ process for a more potent, nutrient rich extract.

After serum or emulsion, Apply on face in circular motions.

Step 7: Skinfood Royal Honey Essential Eye Cream

I looked forward to this eye cream because my eye area is in dire need of some TLC.
My eyes would sometimes feel numb and it usually looks stressed after working for
more than 8 hours or so in front of the computer. So I hope that daily use of this will
counteract the damage and stress that my eye area gets from daily duties.
After application, my eye area did seem brighter. The dark undereye circles are still
there, but it didn’t look that awful anymore.
Details
A honey rich eye cream to help firm and moisturize the area around your eyes.
A luxurious, royal honey eye cream formulated with Queen’s Multi Nutri™ extract and aged Honey
BIO60™ extract to help firm and restore skin around the eyes.

After toner, apply around the eye area in gentle patting motions.

STEP 8: SKINFOOD TEA TREE SPOT OIL KIT

I ran out of pimple patches, so I used this spot treatment to target that one breakout. It
doesn’t smell or feel so overpowering compared to The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil. I
also applied it to different areas where blemishes are still present. I did notice that the
tea tree oil spot treatment takes a longer time to heal breakouts compared to the quick
fix of pimple patches.
AFTER TREATMENT THOUGHTS
It feels like my skin gets better and better after every step. I also like how the products
didn’t feel sticky to my skin. I love the formulation of each product and the feel of it after
every application.
My face didn’t feel so greasy after using all the products in these steps, which is
something different from the usual oily/greasy feeling I get from using different brands
per step. My skin did look and feel better after the entire routine.
Even after I’ve fully consumed the products, I’m still gonna love this kit because I can
happily repurpose the containers. I might even buy another kit of this one because
they’re the perfect size for traveling.
WHAT I WISH I DID
I actually hoped that I bought a Skinfood cleanser and face masks as well so that it
could really be a complete Skinfood multi-step skincare routine. I was going to visit the
nearest Skinfood branch in my hometown, but then I have to stop myself because there
are still so many products inside my “cosmetic limbo” box that I have to test.
THE VERDICT
Yep, it’s a thumbs up.
I would most probably buy this kit if I need to travel for a one to two-week period. I
would love to apply these easy and light formulations during flights. I could also use
these samples as my on-the-go products whenever I need to be in a hurry but still need
to give my skin some TLC.
I’m not really a big fan of getting all my skincare and beauty products from just one
brand. I’m more thrilled in purchasing products from different brands because I think
that one brand offers something which another brand doesn’t. I am, however, interested
on being some sort of “purist” when it comes to skincare – which means that you would
be sort of loyal to one brand for all of your skincare needs. I’m still in the constant
search for better products wherein once I use them, I would definitely be sure that they
would remain as staples in my routine. I’m going to make a full-blown review of all the
products I consider to be “the best of the best” which I couldn’t live without. So stay
tuned for more skincare musings here on AS.
