Question  for  1st  Continuous  Assignment  Test  
Instructions  to  students:  

This  is  the  question  for  your  1st  continuous  assessment  test  to  be  held  on    29th  
April  2017  from  1.00  –  2.30  pm.  

Please  note  the  following:    

• This  question  has  been  given  to  you  in  advance  so  that  you  can  research  and  
prepare  your  answer  before  the  CAT.    

• This  test  will  be  a  closed  book  test  and  you  will  not  be  permitted  to  bring  any  
materials  into  the  exam  hall.      Bringing  any  materials  into  the  exam  hall  will  
be  and  examination  offence.  

• The  test    will  be  of  one  and  a  half  hours  duration  –  1.00  –  2.30  pm.  

• The  question  will  be  given  to  you  again  in  the  exam  hall.  Do  not  bring  this  
document  to  the  exam.    

• You  can  find  a  lot  of  information  on  the  internet  and  you  should  also  visit  the  
OUSL  library  and  other  libraries  to  find  material  for  your  answer.    

Question  
 
(1)   Explain  what  is  mean  by  environmental  crime  and  give  various  examples  of  such  
crime?  
 
(2)   What  environmental  crimes  take  place  or  have  taken  place  in  Sri  Lanka.    What  
are  the  impacts  of  these  offences  on  the  environment?  
 
(3)   What  national  and  international  measures  are  taken  to  deal  with  environmental  
crimes?  
 
(4)   Discuss  the  laws  in  Sri  Lanka  that  deal  with  these  crimes.    Do  you  think  these  
laws  are  effective?      What  suggestions  would  you  make  to  strengthen  the  laws  
and  improve  implementation?
