Question: Hi! When can we legally occupy a public land for our survival? I need to know what the
conditions in the law that we can get to this point? even private land
the reason for my question is that we need to find an available land to build shelters for the homeless.
another is that in a max of 2 months we need to start feeding everybody for free as about 80% of the
population will be unemployed and have no income with this stay at home order. so when can we
legally occupy lands for food production without the backing of the government? Like when is it lawful?

Answer: Hi Sirach, good day!

In relation to your question about occupying public properties for providing shelter for the homeless and
food production, this can only be done with the support and cooperation of your local government. A
local ordinance for such purposes has to be passed by the local council first. Otherwise, the government
can evict unauthorized occupants.

When it comes to private lands for the same purposes, if without the support of the government, they
are only possible if with the cooperation of NGOs or the private owners of the lands intended to be
occupied.

In both cases, we have to partner with the local government and/or NGOs or private persons concerned.

*By food production, we take it that you mean packing relief goods or cooking.
