"Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley and the rendition of "Can't Help Falling in
Love" by Haley Reinhart emphasize the romantic message of the song through different music,
such as style, tone, different beats, and a more present day version. In both versions of the songs
they relay a message of love and how no matter what they will be together forever. Elvis’s song
had made a comeback and many artists tried to remake it due to the popularity of the song. Elvis
was a very popular artist and many people are known to do covers of his music or try to change it
With the two songs/ music videos they’re very similar when it comes to style and the
beat, but when it comes to the message that it’s portraying they’re both very good at
demonstrating it. The song lyrics never changed, but the beat in the music video did. Elvis has a
slower and deeper tone and it’s not as modern due to it also being filmed in 1961. Haley
Reinhart’s version had a slow tone to it but it wasn’t as deep/ heavy like Elivis’s. Her version
was also more modern and was remade in 2015. Both of these music videos are very soothing
and have the same audience while explaining a love story, but just in a different way.
Elvis’s song was meant for just one person in the music video/ song. In the video it was
filmed in Hawaii and had only three characters in the entire scene. The claim for this video
would be that no matter how you explain the way you love someone it’s always gonna make
them understand how you truly feel. Elvis was singing a love song when it was actually for his
grandmother on her birthday. He had presented a music box to her that played the tune to his
song and he had sung along to it. Elvis’s lover was standing next to his grandmother admiring
the whole song while he had sang explaining the love he had for his grandma. The music video
Haley Reinhart was a third place American Idol singer and continued singing while
sending in a video in of her covering the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love '' to be able to premier
in a Extra Gum commercial. The claim for this video would be that you can show someone how
much you love them by doing the simplest tasks. Her song was chosen and with her music video/
commercial she had made it to where it shows a love story of a couple that meets in school and
as they grow older their love for eachother grows. In her music video the Extra gum and wrapper
was their sentimental piece, while Elvis’s was the music box he had given his grandmother.
Haley’s version had many characters and settings, while showing the two main characters the
entire time. With Haley’s being more modern people had thought of it as more of a love song
than Elvis.
A lot of people enjoy each version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” but the storyline of
these videos make the view of this song very different. Although the storylines of both videos
differ tremendously, the message is the same. Both videos describe love stories, just in their own
ways. The modernized version has a different style than the original version that keeps up with
the different music of this time period. Both videos use pathos to appeal to listeners. Not all love
stories are “typical” or the same ones you hear about in movies. A person does not find love:
love finds them. The modernized version touches on how love “sneaks up on you,” showing how
two people bonded over something as simple as dropping their school books. The original
version shows the timeless tale of trying to win over a girl and her parents.
