Past Perfect Simple

Afirmativ: S + had + V3 (-ed)

Negativ: S + hadn’t + V3 (-ed)
Interogativ: Had + S + V3 (-ed)
Interogativ – Negativ: Had + not + S + V3 (-ed)

Intrebuintari:
1. Se foloseste pentru o actiune trecuta, incheiata inaintea unei alte actiuni sau unui alt
moment din trecut. Se folosesc adverbele: when, before, after, as soon as.
I had finished my homework by ten o’clock yesterday.
I had eaten before my parents arrived home.
When my father came home, Dick had done his homework.
Father came home after had done his homework.

2. Pentru o actiune trecuta incheiata imediat inaintea altei actiuni trecute. Se folosesc
constructiile: no sooner (than), hardly/scarcely/barely (when)
Aceste constructii cer inversiunea.
No sooner + had + S + V3 (-ed) + …….+ than + S + V2 (-ed)
Hardly/Scarcely/Barely + had + S + V3 (-ed) + …….+ when + S + V2 (-ed)
No sooner had I entered the classroom than the bell rang.
I had no sooner entered the classroom than the bell rang.
Hardly/Scarcely/Barely had I entered the classroom when the bell rang.

3. Pentru o actiune trecuta savarsita intr-o perioada de timp anterioara altei actiuni
trecute, dar ajungand pana la aceasta.
Se folosesc adverbele for si since.
He had been in the classroom for two minutes when the teacher entered.
He had lived in Bucharest since 1975 when I met him.

4. Cu adverbele just si already.

We didn’t know that he had already repaired the car.
Mary told us that her brother had just left.
