Praxis Analysis 2

From a very young age, I’ve known I’ve always wanted to be involved in education. I can

specifically remember being a 5th grader helping my classmates understand the material that our

teacher was presenting to us and knowing that it’s what I wanted to do. I’ve been given many

opportunities to continue my path on becoming an official teacher, from being a preschool

teacher in High School, to having my own preschool classroom by the time I was 19 years old.

By passing the Praxis exam I will be able to transfer up to UNLV and continue pursuing my

dream of becoming a teacher. In Nevada, passing Praxis scores are quite achievable: Reading at

156, Writing at 162, and Math at 150.

I have never done anything to prepare for the Praxis exam in the 3 years I’ve been at CSN

until the past few weeks. To be quite honest, I wasn’t very familiar in what I needed to do.

Professors always mentioned “Hey, remember this thing called the Praxis” but would never fully

delve into it. When I read the assignment and saw different ways to prep for the Praxis, I used

them. I used Khan Academy’s practice exclusively and surprised myself. When I first took the

scores, I had hit the very minimum for every single test. As someone who has severe testing

anxiety, I was really proud of myself. For two weeks I’ve been practicing about every other day

and have taken 2 real-life tests to stimulate the same environment and for both tests I’ve gotten

just passing scores. As I write this section of my analysis, I have yet to take my official practice

Praxis (which I’m doing tomorrow) so I’m a little nervous about not hitting the mark.

For the math and reading portion of the exam, I scored a 56% and 55% respectively

meaning I need significant improvement in those sections. In my writing, I scored a 73% which

means I am on the borderline of passing the exam. I am incredibly disappointed with the scores I

earned. I got the first email of what my reading score was, and my mouth literally dropped

because it was definitely not what I was expecting to earn.

Now that I know where I stand in the rankings, it’s time to severely pick up the slack that

I’ve done up until this point. I have a friend who has already taken and passed the Praxis exam,

so I know I’m going to be texting her to get the book she used to study from. Additionally, I’m

going to keep using the Khan Academy practice website to help me in developing better

strategies to use while test taking. Finally, I’m not going to be too angry and upset with myself

because now I know that I just need to work a little harder to be able to achieve what I want to.
