Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

When an individual wants to attend an education program, it is important that he/she

passes the Praxis Core exams before he/she can continue or finish his/her bachelor’s degree at a

four-year college. The following scores are needed to pass the Nevada Praxis Core exams: Math

– 150, Writing – 162, Reading: 156.

Exam Preparation

I was initially worried about the math practice exam because math is my worst subject, so

I practiced on the Khan Academy website the day before I took the Praxis Core Math practice

test. As for Reading and Writing, I wasn’t really concerned because I assumed I would do fine,

so I did not study for those sections. I did read through some of the links provided in the module,

but some of them did not work. It’s been a long time since I studied for the Praxis exams. I’ve

known about the Praxis Core exams since my freshman year of high school, but I have been

putting off taking the exam because I’ve been nervous about the results I might get; I’ve been

overthinking it a lot because the tests cost a lot of money.

Exam Results

Surprisingly, Math was what I scored the highest in; I got an 83% which means I am

likely to pass. My score for the Writing section was 80%, which, again, means I am likely to

pass. I thought I would do better but I think it’s a good grade considering that I didn’t study for
this section. My worst score was on the Reading exam; I got a 55%, meaning I need significant

improvement. This didn’t come as a shock to me because I took the practice test while I had the

worst headache; I could only think about how much I wanted to sleep.

Future Exam Preparation

I want to give myself the time to study for at least a week or two before I take the exams.

I underestimate my abilities, but I overestimate my luck at the same time. I know that I’ll do fine

on the exams if I take the time to study and make sure I am in good health. Even though I was

not in the best condition, I think that I would benefit from studying for the Reading exam

because I struggled with understanding the language being used and what the words were trying

to describe. I think I will mainly be studying for the Praxis exams through Khan Academy

because it’s a free service. I don’t want to purchase any practice books because I don’t work so

I’d have to ask my parents to help me pay for study materials. I got free study guides from the

practice exam website so I will most likely study using those documents. I don’t think I’ll work

with a tutor. I think I would benefit from studying out of my old math journals. I plan on taking

the Praxis Core exams during the summer, that means I will start studying for those exams in the

next couple of weeks.
