Praxis Core Exam Analysis
Exam Requirements
The Praxis Core Exam is an important requirement to becoming a teacher in Nevada. The
test measures the test taker’s academic abilities. It covers math, reading and writing. These three
skills are required to becoming a successful teacher and take classes in any of the universities
in Nevada. UNLV, NSC, and UNR require passing scores before admission into their bachelor
level programs in their colleges of education. The passing score for the reading section is 156.
The writing passing score is 162. Lastly, the math score is a 150. I have not looked into
transferring to UNLV, I still have one more class to take this summer. I need to research how to
take the official Praxis Exam. I understand that I need to pass the Praxis Exam with the passing
scores listed above before I can attend any higher classes at UNLV.
Exam Preparation
I studied very little for the reading and writing portion of the test. I dread reading and
writing test. My strong suit is math and science. I practiced with the Khan Academy links
provided by my professor. I could have studied a lot more than I did. My scores show that I
didn’t study. I am naturally decent at math, and I procrastinate when it comes to reading. I started
studying for the reading section, but I fell asleep, and before I knew it the practice scores were
due, and I have not finished it. So, I rushed through and completed them.
Exam Results
First, I took the reading portion, to get it over with. It was a lot harder than I expected.
Every passage was difficult to read and worded very strangely. I felt like there were a lot of run-
on sentences that were purposely trying to make it difficult to read. They were boring too and the
questions were oddly confusing. I wasn’t sure how many questions were on the test, when I got
to question 40, I was wondering when it was going to be over. I got a 46% which I am very

disappointed with myself. Obviously, that is below standard and needs improvement. After, I
took the math one. I felt a lot more confident with this one and I turned it in thinking I was going
to get at least an 80%. Then I got the score back and received a 70%, borderline score. I can
improve on my score, that way I have a cushion to not worry when I take the actual Praxis Exam.
Finally, I took the writing exam. I enjoyed this test. I thought it was going to be a very difficult
test. I am surprised I got a 68%, which needs improvement. After the 46% I got on the reading
section, I was happy to get a 68% which is only 2% away from a 70%.
Looking at my scores, I know I need to prepare before taking the actual Praxis Core
Exam. I plan on reading the information on the ETS website, as well as look into the Ed Ready
program. I do not plan on buying any books or programs, but I will use any free Praxis Prep
websites that I find. My aunt is a teacher and has told me she would let me use her
study materials. Hopefully, this will be a good enough plan to help me pass all sections of the
official Praxis Core Exam. I want to pass the first time, so I don’t need to pay for retakes.
