Praxis Core Analysis
Exam Requirements
Since I am embarking on a teaching career I will need to overcome several
hurdles along the way, and one of the main obstacles is the Praxis Core exam. This
exam assess my skills in three areas: math, reading, and writing. The university I plan
on attending after CSN is UNLV, but before I can attend the university, it requires a
passing score on this test for admission to their teacher education programs, and in the
state of Nevada a passing score is required in order to be a teacher.
Exam Preparation
I must be honest, I did not prepare for this practice exam. I wanted to see how
much I knew and then get help in areas where I was having trouble. While taking this
practice exam I could not focus. My mind was wandering, I got easily distracted by the
things that were happening around me. I was not taking the exam seriously, since I am
nowhere near taking the exam yet, but after the test was finished I started to panic when
I got my test scores. This exam determines my future and I am not even taking the
practice exam seriously. If I want to become a teacher I need to start preparing myself
now even if it months and months away.
Exam Results
My results for my Reading, Writing, and Math were not the best. For Reading, I
scored 27% which means substantial improvement needed. This means I am not likely
to pass the exam. On the Writing section, I scored a 58% which means improvement
needed. I am on the Borderline for passing. For the Math section of the exam, I scored
a 36%, which means substantial improvement needed which means I am not likely to
pass.
