Praxis Core Exam Analysis

The Praxis Core Exam must be passed in order to continue my academic path in

becoming a teacher. Prior to attending a University such as UNLV or UNR, I must pass

the Praxis Core Exam with a score of 156 in reading, 162 in writing, and 150 in math.

The Praxis Core Exams are something I am new to. Prior to taking educational

classes, I’ve never heard of “Praxis Exams.” I didn’t even know what they were. I found

several practice tests online to test myself. I knew going into the exam, I wasn’t going to

do well. For whatever reason, I don’t perform well when taking tests. Something about

tests just seems to alter my thinking.

I had my concerns about taking the tests, but I really didn’t think I would perform

as poorly as I did. I knew going into the math test, I would perform poorly. Math

certainly is not my strong suit. What I was surprised to see is how my reading score was

worse than my math score. In short, I need to improve immensely, but seeing my results

certainly gives me a better insight what to expect in the future. I need to prepare better,

and I also need take additional courses.

My scores are nothing to rave about! In math, I received a score of 48%. I need

significant improvement. In reading, I received a shocking 38% and need significant

improvement. In writing, I received a 63% and need improvement. I need to improve in

all areas before I can consider taking the official exam.

I need to do several things before I can consider taking the Official Praxis Core

Exam. I can continue to educate myself by taking additional courses at CSN. These
classes can help me learn how to solve math problems that I currently struggle with. I can

also continue to practice the exams online.

I was unaware of the Praxis Core Review at CSN. I will definitely register for this

course if I’m eligible to do so and I will also purchase and rent books at the library to

better prepare myself to be successful in my future testing.
