Exam Requirements

Before a person becomes a teacher, they need to take an exam called the Praxis. Colleges

in Nevada, such as UNLV, NSC, and UNR, require education majors to take and pass the Praxis

to continue their Bachelor’s degree. The examinee must pass Mathematics, Reading, and Writing

to move forward with their education. Mathematics requires a 150 to pass, Reading requires a

156, and Writing requires a 162 to pass. I have not taken the Praxis, but I have taken sample

practice tests on the Teachers Test Prep website to determine if I will pass the examination.

Exam Preparation

I did not use my time wisely to prepare for the practice tests because I did not focus my

motivation on the Praxis. As a result, I did not use the free time I had available to me during the

previous weeks to prepare for the practice tests. The tests were not the official Praxis; therefore,

my mindset was not focused on studying. I did, however, cram studying for the Mathematics

portion. Because mathematics is complicated and not a strong subject for me, I was more

anxious about that test. I used the ETS Praxis website to assist my learning. The website

provided many sample questions that refreshed my mind on certain equations.

Exam Results

In Reading, I scored in the 38 % range, which means my Reading needs significant

improvement. In Writing, the score I received was in the 48% range. This score also tells me that

my efforts on the writing portion need improvement. I am not surprised by the outcomes of the

Reading and Writing tests because I did not prepare to the best of my ability to pass the

examination. In Math, I scored in the 63% range, although better than Reading and Writing,

which also means my mathematics score needs improvement. Despite the fact that my score

needs to improve, I am surprised by the results I received on the Mathematics test. Considering

my lack of preparatory measures, I believed my score would be lower than 63%; hence this was

a pleasant surprise and motivated me to study harder. Based on the scores that I received after

taking the practice exams, I will most likely have not passed the Praxis. However, in the future, I

will focus my mindset and motivation on the Praxis.

Future Exam Preparation

I will use the resources that are given to me. I will use the free Praxis Prep websites to

study and learn what is expected of me in order to pass each exam. The sample questions provide

excellent suggestions to comprehend the expectation for Reading and Writing. The library offers

free practice books on the Praxis. I can check out the books for free and study the information

provided. The books can showcase many different equations, graphs, and other questions relating

to mathematics. I will use my time wisely by preparing ahead early and use my availability to

study for the exam.
