Exam Requirements
The praxis core exam is a test that measures academic skills in reading, math, and writing
for educators, essential for all candidates preparing to be teachers, no matter what content
area or grade-level they aspire to teach. You must take and pass the Praxis Exam before
you are accepted into your Bachelor program. I will be completing my aa in Early
Childhood Education in December and will need to take the Praxis Exam to go onto my
bachelor's degree at UNLV. There are three sections of the test, math, writing, and
reading and you have to pass all three to get your teacher's license. You need at least a
156 score to the reading, a 162 score to pass writing, and a 150 to pass the math section.
Exam Preparation
I did prepare for the practice Praxis Core exam a little bit using the Khan Academy
official Praxis core prep. I did all of the practice questions for each section. I didn't study
as much as I should have and it shows. I thought the questions would be simpler than
what there were. It showed me that I have a lot of studying and reviewing to do. I did like
that Khan Academy broke the test down into different sections, like with math you had
algebra and statics so you know what areas in math you need to study.
Exam Results
In Math, I scored in the 43% range, which means that I need significant improvement. In
Reading, I scored 39%, which means that I need significant improvement. In Writing, I
books or prep books I will. I keep using the free practice exams, I will take the prep
classes at CSN. If I'm not seeing any improvements with my scores then I will find a
tutor to work with. I try to find teachers that have already passed the test to help me study
as well. I will plan out a study schedule and study for months before I take the exam. I
will wait until I am well prepared and confident before I take the real exam.
