Phy214 Section A. 16" March, 2017 Class Test 2 Operational Amplifiers Fe Instructions: Answer any three (3) questions. 1. The circuit below is used to monitor low light intensi \w R, Ay +0 Vye tev The resistances Ryand Rare 5.0 kQ and 50 kA respectively. The input voltage Visis +1.2 V. A high-resistance voltmeter measures the output Vour. Determine the voltmeter reading for light intensities such that the LDR has a resistance of () 100k0, (i) 10k. 3] 2. Design a circuit to combine three signalsV, Vzand Vjso that the output signal Vois given by Vo =2V, +¥2 +2 Vs, ‘The input resistance of the signal inputs must be greater than 50 kA. Design a circuit to satisfy these conditions. 3. (a) (i) Explain what is meant by a voltage follower. (ii) Outline the design of the voltage follow. (b) The voltage follower is used as a buffer in circuits. Explain what is meant by a buffer and how ‘the voltage follower is able to perform that function. 4, (a) What isa voltage comparator? (b)_ The input signal to a monitoring system varies - 5 V to +5V. Design a circuit that will turn on an LED when the input signal s less than 1 V. Values of resistances to be used should be quoted. [6] 5. (a) Adigital to analog conversion circuit has three input terminals A, 8 and C with terminal A representing the most significant bit. When the input B is on and A and Care off the output voltage is - 0.2 V. Determine the magnitude of the input voltage in the ON position. (b) Draw 2 table to show all the possible combinations of the three inputs A, B and C using 0 to represent off and 1 to represent on. Your table should also include a column with the output voltages for each combination.
