Lab Activity: Let’s Develop Your Eye for Color

I will have a stack of pictures of a diverse group of people. Each student will pair up with another person.
Each team will get two photos, one is a single process color and the other has multi-dimension. The
team together will have to figure out the following and write down on an index card:

1. What level of color are the pictures?

2. What tones do you see in each picture?
3. If the natural hair color is shown, what level and tone is it?
4. Name the colors that client’s will relate to. Descriptive names (i.e. honey blond, caramel, copper
penny, etc.)

Give the students 10-15 mins to do this activity. Then each student will present their conclusions to the
calss. As a class, we can either agree or if a student has their conclusion they want to share, then it can
be a class discussion. This activity will help the students develop a deeper understanding of haircolor. I
will put the pictures up on the wall for students to take a closer look.
