Should Dr. King be considered a hero? Many during the time didn’t believe he was. Dr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. should be considered a hero because he showed great leadership, he was
compassionate, and he was valiant in the faces of his enemies.
One reason why Martin Luther King is considered a hero is because he showed great
leadership. For example, the article states that “King summoned black leaders in 1957…”
(Seattle Times). This shows that Dr. King had the ability to direct people towards his cause.
Another example of great leadership can be found in this article. It states, “…by mobilizing the
black community in a 382-day boycott…” This illustrates how he could bring people together for
a common cause.
Another reason why Martin Luther King is considered a hero is because he was
compassionate. For example, the article states that “King turned his attention to… poverty.” This
shows that Dr. King cared for all people, not just African-Americans. Another example of
compassion is found in the video “American Heroes: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” In the video, it
says that when King was young he believed that “people of different color could come together
and be friends.” This shows the kind of person Dr. King was even at an earlier age.
The last reason why Martin Luther is considered a hero is because he was valiant. For
example, Dr. King was valiant because he protested despite being arrested for “loitering.” This
shows that he was doing what he thought was right even when other people hated him for it.
Another example of Dr. King being valiant can be found in the Discovery Education video,
“American Heroes: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” The video states, “Dr. King heard something
about Rosa [Parks] and did something about it.” This shows how he would be willing to do
whatever it takes to help a person in distress.
In conclusion, Dr. King should be considered a hero because he showed great leadership,
he was compassionate, and he was valiant in the faces of his enemies.
